Differences between Historian and Data Logger

Differences between Historian and Data Logger

  • 5 April 2017 at 6:59 pm #22701

I normally use Data Loggers to record my process data, like I did normally with Movicon 11. Now I see that Movicon.NExT offers not only Data Loggers, but also Historian. Is not clear for me the differences. When I should use one or another?
    Thanks in advance.

Both objects records data Tags into a DB, but please note:
Data Loggers: each Tag is related to a DB Column. when you make a record, you will record all the data values, even those not changed. This is of course a waste of space and a not optimized management, but can be very useful for some specific project needs (i.e.production reports).
Historian: each Tag is recorded only when it changes. This is very optimized for time-series data (i.e. for Trends).
You can chose one or another model, depending from your needs. See the product manuals for more info.
